Israel’s tourist industry is under the threat
Sunday, February 4th, 2007The act of terrorism in Eilat has caused a shock in representatives of tourist industry. According to the report of the World tourist organization in 2006 the number of tourists in the world has made nearby 842 million people, that on 4, 5 % exceeds results of 2005 and is an absolute record. The gain was observed in all directions, especially in Africa, Asian-Pacific region and the USA. Israel makes an exception. According to the Central statistical bureau of Israel, in 2006 the country was visited by 1, 8 million foreigners - almost on 37 % less, than in 2005. On a recognition of representatives of the ministry of tourism of Israel, mass refusals of trips began to occur because of war to Lebanon, which begun the last summer. Having recognized, that the summer season of the last year has been actually broken, the Israeli authorities made arrogant plans for winter of 2007. However it is not the high time to make any conclusions. Nevertheless it became obvious, that it is far not in the best image on statistics yesterday’s events in Eilat will be reflected. About 50 % of tourists, sending to Israel, choose Eilat. Besides quite inexpensive rest and local sights Eilat involved tourists with the fact that the war have always bypassed this country. First of all the resort was a place of earnings not only for Israelis, but also, in many respects, for Palestinians - and business is business. Therefore explosion on January, 29th has caused a shock in representatives of tourist industry. For tourists explosion in Eilat became familiar that in Israel there are no more oases for having a rest.
Authorities of Eilat are also concerned. The mayor of Eilat has declared, that the government of Israel understands, that Eilat became a target of the states where the Islam of fundamentalist sense prevails, and he hopes that this incident will become the last one in the history of Eilat. The authorities Eilat will do everything possible to return to a normal life and henceforth to accept tourists from Israel and from abroad.
